Last Hawk Owl for the season

Perhaps this was the last session I got with Hawk Owls this season. Such a charming creature. And a weasel showed up for a while as well.

Swans arrive with spring

The last week, a little taste of spring have finally been handed to us in this still rather wintery landscape. I was surprised to hear my first Wood Pigeon for the season in a remote pine forest and -10° C the other morning. At the same time Whooper Swans and the first Bean Geese have started to arrive to the valley, adding a lot of noice & atmosphere. Pygmy Owls are starting to be vocal and a bit easier to find as well these days.

This is the time of the year when Waxwings can be easy to attract if you pin some apples to sharp twigs on your apple tree. This I have done continuously the last weeks, and suddenly a bunch of 40 or so of these lovely birds appeared and spent 2 days in an apple feeding frenzy!

A day with Hawk Owls, is always a good day...
